Cows to replace pigs in Tangerang

TANGERANG: The Tangerang Animal Husbandry Agency has ordered the closure of pig farms in Tanjung Burung area, Teluknaga district following protests by local residents.

Head of the agency Didi Aswadi, said on Sunday that the farms should be closed down because its waste polluted the environment, Antara reported.

He said that the farmers should open cattle farms instead.

The first pig farms started operating in the 1980s and proliferated until the mid-1990s.

They were owned by both local residents and people from Jakarta. --JP
