Court tries narcotics user

JAKARTA (JP): A man was tried at the Central Jakarta District
Court yesterday for consuming marijuana, possessing another 2.5
grams of the drug and stealing a shaver at SOGO department store
in Central Jakarta.

Twenty-two year old Yudi Hermawan was accused of buying and
using the contraband with his friend Mahdi Kusuma last December,
whose trial for the same offense took place in a separate hearing
last week

Prosecutor Elly told the judges that Yudi and Mahdi were
caught by SOGO security guards for stealing the shaver. The two
men appeared to be high on drugs when they committed the crime.
Later the guards found two envelopes of dried marijuana in the
two suspects' pockets.

The men had allegedly bought the marijuana in Baturaja,
Central Jakarta, for Rp 25,000 (US$11.3) and used some of it
before they went to the store.

If found guilty, Yudi may be sentenced to a maximum of seven
years imprisonment. (03)
