Central Jakarta District Court will broadcast a live stream of the plea hearing for the Chromebook corruption case involving defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim. The hearing is scheduled for 2 June 2026. Central Jakarta District Court Chief Husnul Khotimah stated that the live stream via YouTube platform @PengadilanNegeriJakartaPusat is provided in response to the surge in social media influencers’ calls for ‘watch-along’ sessions for Nadiem Makarim’s plea hearing. ‘We are opening live streaming, in addition to media coverage,’ Husnul said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Monday (25 May 2026). Moreover, on the day of the plea hearing, Monday (2 June), the courtroom has been set to accommodate 70 people, including 20 family members, 10 public figures, and 40 journalists from media outlets. Previously, Nadiem Makarim faced a prosecution seeking an 18-year prison sentence, a fine of Rp1 billion, or 190 days in prison if unpaid, and Rp5.67 trillion in restitution, or 9 years in prison if unpaid. In the case of alleged corruption in the digitalisation of education program involving Chromebook and Chrome Device Management (CDM) procurement within the Ministry of Education, Research, and Technology from 2019 to 2022, he is charged with corruption causing Rp2.18 trillion in state losses. The alleged corruption includes the procurement of information and communication technology-based learning tools, namely Chromebooks and CDM for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 fiscal years, which did not comply with procurement planning and principles. Specifically, the state losses amount to Rp1.56 trillion related to the education digitalisation program at the ministry, and $44.05 million (Rp621.39 billion) due to unnecessary and non-beneficial CDM procurement. Nadiem is suspected of receiving Rp809.59 billion from PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa (PT AKAB) via PT Gojek Indonesia, with most of PT AKAB’s funds reportedly coming from Google’s $786.99 million investment. He faces charges under Article 2(1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, and Article 55(1)(i) of the Criminal Code.
