Court postpones ruling on BPK

JAKARTA: The Constitutional Court postponed for two days on Wednesday the pronouncement of its decision in the controversy over the appointment of new members of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), which has pitted the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) against the House of Representatives.

Constitutional Court President Jimly Asshidiqie announced that the panel of nine justices had failed to reach a decision in the case.

He said the delay would not affect the work of the BPK as the members for 1998-2004 period remained in office.

The case revolves around an objection by the DPD to the process employed in selecting the BPK members for the 2004-2009 period, which excluded the DPD. Both the government and the House insist that the selection process was completed before the establishment of the DPD on Oct. 1. -- JP
