Court Postpones Dr Tifa's Trial to July 9, Defence to File Objection
The panel of judges at the East Jakarta District Court has decided to postpone the trial of doctor Tifa until Thursday, 9 July 2026. The adjournment follows the inaugural hearing where the indictment was read.
During the session, the panel of judges ruled that the next hearing will be scheduled for the presentation of an objection or exception by the defendant’s legal team. The follow-up session is scheduled for Thursday, 9 July 2026, at 09:00 Western Indonesia Time.
The panel of judges explained that the defendant’s side is being given the opportunity to present their objection at the next hearing. The deadline was set during today’s session. “The trial is adjourned until Thursday, 9 July 2026, with the agenda being the objection to be filed by the team of advocates at 09:00,” the panel of judges stated during the session.
The panel of judges also stressed that this deadline could change if there are obstacles regarding the completeness of documents required by the legal team. In their statement, the judges noted that if the official investigation report (BAP) is only provided after the specified deadline, the defendant’s side will be granted additional time to prepare their objection.
“The panel of judges emphasises that it will set the deadline for the objection on 9 July. Later, if the BAP is provided late, more time will be given,” the panel of judges stated. Consequently, next week’s follow-up hearing still has the potential to be postponed if the documents required for preparing the objection are not received in full by the legal team.
Previously, Dr Tifa’s legal team had requested that the official investigation report be handed over in its entirety. They consider the completeness of these documents essential as a basis for preparing an objection to the indictment filed by the public prosecutor. The panel of judges also opened the possibility of granting additional time if the handover of the documents does not meet the needs of the trial process.
Before closing the session, the panel of judges also conveyed a message regarding the importance of maintaining the integrity of the judicial process. The judge reminded all parties involved in the trial at the East Jakarta District Court of their commitment to conducting the legal process cleanly and not accepting bribes.
