Court delays man's execution
SEMARANG, Central Java: The Central Java High Prosecutors Office decided to postpone the execution of Toegiman, 43, after he filed a petition for a review of his case.
Toegiman, on death row following his conviction for the murder of Utomo Kasidi and his family members, had appealed for clemency but was denied.
Head of the prosecutors office Harry Moerdjono told the Antara news agency yesterday that, legally, Toegiman's petition for a review, filed last Friday, will not necessarily affect the execution schedule.
"However, as this concerns the life of a human being, there's a special policy could delay the execution," Moerdjono said.
Toegiman's case will be reviewed by the Surakarta district court next week, and the prosecutors appointed to the case are Haryono and Soetarto.
Both men were also prosecutors during the trial of Toegiman and Karta Tjahjadi, his accomplice in the murder who was executed in 1990. (swe)
