Court accepts Oki dossier
JAKARTA (JP): Chief of South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office Heru Mustofa has submitted the dossier concerned with the alleged passport forgery of Harnoko Dewantono, alias Oki, to Judge Soedjatman at South Jakarta District Court.
Prosecutor Heru said on Friday that Oki was been charged with violating articles 263, 270 and 64 of the criminal code, which deal with document forgery. He has also been charged under articles 55a, 55c and 55d of the 1992 immigration law.
"Oki is facing six years imprisonment for violating those articles," Heru said.
According to Article 55 of the 1992 Immigration Law, a person convicted of using a false travel document is liable to five years imprisonment and a maximum fine of Rp 25 million (US$11,358).
Heru said that Oki had four fake passports.
"He has four passports with four different names and photographs," he said referring to newspaper reports that Oki was suspected of having at least six passports with six different names.
"I will appoint the judges who will try Oki as soon as possible," Soedjatman said, after receiving the dossier.
Soedjatman said that seven people would testify in the trial, including several immigration officers.
The prosecutor's office may summon a number of expert witnesses to testify, including the Director General of Immigration, Heru said.
South Jakarta police chief, Lt. Col. S.Y. Wenas, witnessed the submission of the dossiers.
Thirty-year-old Oki, who was arrested on Jan. 7, is also wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection with the murder of his younger brother, Eri Tri Harto Darmawan, an Indonesian woman, Gina Sutan Aswar, and an Indian businessman, Suresh Mirchandani.
Police sources say Oki forged passports as a means of obtaining duty reductions on his belongings when he returned to Indonesia from California.
Oki allegedly used a passport belonging to his late brother Eri, identified as a student, replacing the photograph with one of his own. (mas)
