Courier Motorbikes Seize Sidewalks in Duren Sawit
Motorcycle parking that blocks the sidewalk on Haji Miran Street, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, has drawn attention. In circulating footage, several two-wheeled vehicles appear to obstruct pedestrian access. The situation has prompted residents to complain, as they are forced to step onto the roadway to cross. Not only motorcycles; a truck believed to be engaged in loading and unloading also appears to partially block the pedestrian path in the area. Motorbikes belonging to couriers block the sidewalk and spill onto the road, drawing complaints from residents. This condition is said to disrupt access to shops in the surrounding area. Sidik, 52, a local resident, said shop owners in the area have several times been admonished by other traders because vehicles park and block entry. ‘We’ve often been told off by other traders; the access on both sides is blocked, so we admonish them,’ he said. Although admonishments have been repeated—even reported via the JAKI app—the habit is said not to have changed. ‘It still hasn’t changed. It’s been told off many times, and the valve caps have been knocked off constantly by the Dishub,’ he stated. The Head of the Implementation Unit (Kasatpel) Satpol PP of Malaka Jaya sub-district, Tanjani, said they had carried out enforcement in the form of a valve-cap removal operation. ‘Yes, this is also part of what has gone viral. We have taken action, performing OCP, i.e., valve-cap removal operations,’ he said. He added that the step was taken after frequent public complaints about sidewalks being used as parking space.
