Couple nabbed for using fake credit card
TANGERANG: The Serpong Police arrested a couple and their driver on Wednesday for using a fake credit card while shopping at a supermarket in Plaza Serpong, Tangerang regency.
The suspects -- Gugit Hartoto, Ramdan Sari and Dwi Yulianto -- were arrested after police received a report from cashier Sri Ningsih, who became suspicious about the credit card the couple used last Friday to pay a Rp 1.1 million (US$121) grocery bill.
"The cashier became suspicious because the credit card's four- digit serial code was unusual," Serpong Police chief Insp. Kosbar said. "She later contacted the bank, which confirmed that the number was not listed."
After their arrest, the suspects confessed to police they had also used the fake credit card to buy Rp 25 million worth of various goods. They claimed to have bought the card for Rp 3 million from an unidentified person in Jakarta.
Kosbar said the three would be charged with violating Article 263 and Article 372 of the Criminal Code on fraud and embezzlement. The articles carry a maximum punishment of six years and four years in prison, respectively. -- JP
