Couple molest, burn RI maid

SINGAPORE: A married couple were both charged with abusing their Indonesian maid, the husband by allegedly molesting the woman and the wife by burning her, it was reported on Tuesday.

The man, a 55-year-old insurance agent, was also accused of punching the 22-year-old maid in the head and kicking her in the legs, The Straits Times said. His wife, 38, allegedly burnt the maid's arm with an iron in July 2002.

The offenses were committed at the couple's Singapore home.

A pretrial conference was scheduled for Sept. 30. --DPA
