Couple Drunk on Alcohol and Love Crash into Police Checkpoint in Gambir

A video of a man and woman riding a motorcycle crashing into police during a checkpoint has gone viral on social media. The couple continued speeding until they collided with officers conducting the raid.

Gambir Metro Police Chief AKBP Agus Adi Wijaya explained why the couple deliberately ran through the checkpoint and hit the officers on duty.

“Heavily intoxicated and in love, the couple attempted to bypass an anti-mugging checkpoint on KH Hasyim Ashari Street in Central Jakarta’s Gambir district, colliding with officers in the process,” said AKBP Agus Adi on Tuesday (26 May 2026).

In the video uploaded to the Gambir Metro Police Instagram account (@polisigambir), the couple was ordered to stop but the man continued speeding.

The motorcycle eventually stopped after crashing into another vehicle and a police officer. The incident occurred while officers were checking riders on KH Hasyim Ashari Street.

The couple was released after no prohibited items were found, but police urged them to ride responsibly while sober.

“After being detained and searched, no prohibited items were found. Officers calmed them down and advised against riding while drunk. The situation was secure, and the couple was allowed to continue their journey,” he said.

Agus explained the raid targeted narcotics, sharp weapons, brawls, and 3C crimes—violent theft (mugging), aggravated theft, and motorcycle theft.

“As the checks were complete, we allowed them to leave. However, we gave them time to stabilise before returning home safely,” he added.

Police also requested the couple to report and provide proof once they arrived home safely.
