Couple caught for carrying hashish

JAKARTA (JP): A woman and her boyfriend were caught red-handed in Tangerang Saturday morning with three kilograms of dried hashish in their bags, police said.

The widow of four children, Mag, 45, and boyfriend Kam, 47, said they were ordered by another man by the name of Si to bring the hashish from Medan, West Sumatra, to Jakarta.

"The hashish would be sold for around Rp 1.8 million per kilo," Mag said.

Mag said she was paid Rp 1.2 million (US$500) to do the job.

The couple traveled from Pematang Siantar by ALS bus to Jakarta. After their arrival, both took a President Taxi to Cawang, East Jakarta.

They were nailed by police on a routine check of cars and public vehicles. Police said the couple were nervous when they were being searched.

City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang confirmed the arrest, saying that police were now trying to trace the hashish distributing network in both cities.

"We already have several names and we'll continue the investigation," Aritonang said. (04)
