The data was released by Canadian firm Visual Capitalist, using Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) figures on 13 April 2026. In countries like Sweden and Hungary, households save over 10% of their income, whereas in the US, the figure is just 4.9%. In some cases, the disparity is stark: American households save roughly half as much as those in Mexico. Sweden tops the list as the most disciplined savers, with household net savings rates nearly eightfold from 2.3% to 16% over the past two decades. Many European nations feature prominently, with households consistently setting aside a large portion of income, including Hungary (14.3%) and France (12.8%).
