Tangerang (ANTARA) - Glori Telis Amanta, a counsellor at the Tangerang City Family Learning Centre (Puspaga), revealed that psychological burdens within families often serve as the primary trigger for the ‘iceberg’ phenomenon of domestic violence if not addressed at an early stage.

“Parenting stress can trigger violence against children. This is where the role of Posyandu volunteers becomes vital, providing Psychological First Aid (PFA) and mitigating psychological risks within families before they escalate,” said Glori during a strategic parenting event for Posyandu volunteers in Tangerang on Friday.

She assessed that Posyandu volunteers play a crucial role as the spearhead in the early detection of social and psychological dynamics within the community.

“Through this orientation, volunteers are equipped with practical Psychological First Aid (PFA) skills so they are capable of providing the appropriate first response to indications of parenting stress, trauma, and the potential for violence in their respective areas,” she stated.

She explained that during the training, volunteers were trained interactively to apply the three main principles of PFA: Look (observing signs of stress), Listen (listening with empathy), and Link (connecting residents to Puspaga counselling services or the Tangerang City Government’s child protection unit).

“The synergy between Posyandu volunteers and Puspaga is expected to create safe and child-friendly neighbourhood environments. In doing so, we can reduce domestic violence rates and ensure that the children of Tangerang City grow up psychologically healthy,” she concluded.
