Councillors want building demolished

TANGERANG: Tangerang Council urged the administration on Friday to demolish the commercial premises being built around the lake in Modern Land housing complex.

"The developer failed to secure a permit and violated the agreed upon master plan, in which the area is designated as a parking lot," said councillor Hasanuddin Bieje.

However, the municipality's Public Order Agency head, Edwan Firmansyah, said that his office was waiting for the final say from the spatial agency, which issues building permits.

"If the agency agrees with the councillors, then we will stop the ongoing construction," he said.

The head of the spatial agency, Dafyar Elliyadi, said the agency was studying the matter.

"From a preliminary study, we found that the shopping center, the Lake Shop, is being built on a land earmarked for a parking lot near Lake Gede," he said, adding that relocation was under consideration as well as sanctions against the developer.
