Councillor grilled over murder

LAHAT, South Sumatra: Police personnel are questioning a 47-year- old councillor at the Lahat regental council in connection with the murder of Sidit, 50, a resident of Babatan subdistrict.

The councillor is said to have had a personal problem with the victim, said Lahat Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Nugroho Aji Wijayanto.

The councillor reportedly assaulted Sidit on Wednesday last week at the victim's home.

Atok, 20, one of the five people who accompanied the councillor to Sidit's house, died of stab wounds in the incident. The police are still looking for the other four men. -- JP
