Council reveals alleged fraud

CIANJUR, West Java: Four members of the Cianjur Regency Legislative Council are suspected of being involved in the alleged fraud of billions of rupiah from the regency annual budget, the Regency Council of Cianjur revealed on Tuesday.

Council spokesman Dian Rahadian said the council had sufficient evidence to support their claim. "They are all members of the budget commission."

Dian said the council had been discussing the matter with independent consultants. "We have been trying to find the best (legal) way to take them to court."

Dian said that the suspects had marked up certain expenditures. They also made up fictitious expenses, Dian added.

He said one legislator had made a fictitious report on spending funds for a youth exchange program with the Japanese government.

"We want the prosecutor's office to investigate the case promptly and properly," he said. --Antara
