CottonInk Archipelago Blends Nusantara Textiles into Modern Ready-to-Wear
Stepping onto the runway for the Cita Senada collection by CottonInk Archipelago feels like strolling through a Sunday morning market complete with traditional snacks, herbal medicine, fresh produce, and warm musical melodies. Rather than a cold, distant runway atmosphere, CottonInk has created a cosy, everyday ambience familiar to Indonesians. The ‘Pasar Sukaria’ show opened with a contemporary traditional dance performance by Omah Wulangreh. Dancers moved in sync to modern Javanese rhythms, setting the tone for the audience to understand CottonInk Archipelago’s direction: contemporary yet rooted in local identity. ‘This is like a homage, or what we’d call a homecoming to the collection,’ Carline said after the show at Nirmana Falatehan in Blok M, South Jakarta on Friday 22 May. Carline explained that CottonInk Archipelago has existed since 2012 and previously showcased similar-themed collections at Jakarta Fashion Week 2014. However, the line was revived in 2024 due to consumer demand for modern Indonesian-style clothing that is comfortable for daily wear. ‘Our customers need Indonesian-style clothing that’s modern, suitable for the office or events, casual and comfortable to wear,’ Carline added. ‘We want the clothes to be timeless, so people don’t have to overthink,’ said Ria on the same occasion. ‘The essence of CottonInk Archipelago lies in infusing Nusantara fabrics and more,’ she added.
