Cost of ID
Cost of ID
From Forum Keadilan
I do not agree with the idea of letting a private company
issue residents' identity cards. I am sure it will increase the
cost of getting them. Let's compare this with the cost of getting
vehicle documents, driver's licenses etc. Since the private
sector was authorized to do the business the administrative cost
has increased 100-200 percent, sometimes even over 400 percent.
They argue that the high cost was caused by the need to buy
computers to handle the business. The business also benefits
certain people.
Why should people bear all the administrative cost? The
provision of ID cards is a public service. Can't the cost be
included in the state budget?
I come from Sangihe Talaud islands which are geographically
close to the Philippines. Not all islands have electricity. Now,
how can they run computers in our region? The cost only adds to
the suffering of the little people. I hope the authorities take
this matter into consideration.
