JAKARTA – The BYD M6 has become one of the electric vehicles gaining attention in Indonesia. With a claimed driving range of up to 530 kilometres, this model is being considered for long-distance travel, including Lebaran holiday journeys.

One of the most commonly travelled routes by holiday travellers is Jakarta–Yogyakarta via the Trans-Java Toll Road. This route spans approximately 575 kilometres and benefits from relatively good toll road infrastructure, enabling efficient inter-city travel.

The driving range stated is BYD’s claim and may be lower under actual conditions. These differences are influenced by various factors, ranging from driving style, traffic conditions, to the use of vehicle features such as cabin air conditioning. Consequently, the energy consumption of electric vehicles often varies on each journey.

Based on editorial testing, the BYD M6’s energy consumption was recorded at approximately 5.7 km per kWh. Using this benchmark, the energy requirements for a Jakarta–Yogyakarta journey can be estimated roughly.

Currently, non-subsidised residential electricity tariffs range from Rp 1,400 to Rp 1,700 per kWh. Meanwhile, charging at Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) equipped with DC fast charging facilities, such as those operated by PLN or Voltron, costs approximately Rp 2,466.74 per kWh.

If the charging cost is rounded to Rp 2,500 per kWh, then an energy requirement of 100.8 kWh would need approximately Rp 252,000 for a one-way journey.

Beyond electricity costs, holiday travellers must also account for toll charges. For Class I vehicles, the estimated toll tariff for the Jakarta–Semarang route reaches approximately Rp 451,500. However, during the Lebaran holiday period, the government typically offers toll rate discounts.

During the period from 15 March 00:00 WIB to 16 March 24:00 WIB, toll road users receive a special 2026 Lebaran holiday discount for the Jakarta–Semarang route of Rp 142,050. Thus, the toll tariff for Class I vehicles during this period becomes approximately Rp 309,450.

Adding the Semarang–Solo toll rate of Rp 92,000 and the Solo–Yogyakarta rate of Rp 42,500, the total estimated toll charge for Jakarta–Yogyakarta is Rp 443,950.

When combined with electricity costs, the total estimated cost for a Lebaran holiday journey from Jakarta to Yogyakarta using the BYD M6 is approximately Rp 695,950 for a single trip. This calculation includes electricity charging costs and toll tariffs throughout the journey.
