Corruption Extends to Waste Management, Here is the Evidence

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that a case of alleged corruption within the Bengkulu City Government is related to the management of medical waste. “That is one of them,” said Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, to journalists in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/7). However, Taufik could not yet explain in detail the investigation into the alleged corruption, which is a development of a suspected bribery case within the Rejang Lebong Regency Government. “We will update you as soon as possible because the team is working,” he said.

Previously, the KPK arrested 13 people in a sting operation related to suspected project bribery within the Rejang Lebong Regency Government, Bengkulu. On 11 March 2026, the KPK named five suspects in the case: Rejang Lebong Regent Muhammad Fikri Thobari; Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and Settlement Areas Agency of Rejang Lebong, Hary Eko Purnomo; Irsyad Satria Budiman from PT Statika Mitra Sarana; Edi Manggala from CV Manggala Utama; and Youki Yusdiantoro from CV Alpagker Abadi. The five suspects are alleged to have been involved in bribery related to project brokering within the Rejang Lebong Regency Government for the 2025–2026 fiscal year.

On 20 July 2026, the KPK announced the development of the investigation into the case but had not yet named any suspects. On 26 July 2026, the KPK revealed that it had searched several locations in Bengkulu City, including the offices and homes of private parties engaged in medical devices and waste management, as well as the home of the Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency of Bengkulu City, Noprisman. From the search, investigators found evidence in the form of Rp4 billion in cash at Noprisman’s residence. The KPK stated that the search was related to an investigation into alleged corruption involving state officials or officials within the Bengkulu City Government.
