Corruption Convict Spotted at Kendari Café Transferred to Nusakambangan
A convict in an illegal mining corruption case, Supriadi, has been transferred to Nusakambangan Penitentiary after a video of him hanging out at a café with guards from Kendari Detention Centre in Southeast Sulawesi went viral.
“Yes, he was transferred to Nusakambangan this morning,” said Head of Kendari Penitentiary, Mukhtar, to reporters on Thursday (16/4).
Mukhtar stated that Supriadi was moved to Nusakambangan Penitentiary, known for its very strict supervision, based on instructions from the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) for Southeast Sulawesi.
“The transfer process for Supriadi was secured with maximum measures. This action demonstrates the Directorate General of Corrections’ commitment to enforcing discipline,” he explained.
The convict in the corruption case was transferred to Nusakambangan via Haluoleo Airport.
“The flight was to Yogyakarta, then a transit in Makassar, followed by land access to Nusakambangan,” he clarified.
Previously, Kendari Detention Centre responded to the viral video by stating that Supriadi had left detention to attend a case review hearing (PK) at the Kendari District Court with officer escort on Tuesday (14/4).
“That was in accordance with procedure. Supriadi had a court agenda and was escorted by our officers,” said Acting Head of Kendari Detention Centre, La Ode Mustakim, on Wednesday (15/4).
In the video, Supriadi is seen walking to a coffee shop with a Kendari Detention Centre officer after the PK hearing. However, Mustakim admitted he did not receive any report regarding Supriadi’s activities after the hearing.
“Every activity outside the detention centre should still be reported in a tiered manner,” he said.
