The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police and the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Task Force are continuing their investigation into alleged money laundering and corruption related to coal and Asabri. Joint investigators have also conducted raids at more than a dozen locations in Jakarta and Sentul, Bogor, West Java. Various pieces of evidence, including cash in multiple currencies such as US and Singapore dollars, as well as tens of kilograms of gold bars, have been seized.

During a raid on Wednesday (8/7) at Parahyangan Golf 2 in Sentul, Bogor, police also seized mobile phones and family photographs believed to belong to the owner of the house. The head of the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Task Force, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, stated that investigators are still looking into the identity of the homeowner. The total value of gold bars and cash seized at that location reached IDR 476 billion.

The Attorney General’s Office has responded to the police raids. The Head of the Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, said the search and seizure efforts are fully within the police’s authority. He confirmed that the Attorney General’s Office respects the ongoing investigation process in accordance with the law and is awaiting the results, including the objects of the search, evidence, and any parties linked to the process. Anang also urged the public not to draw conclusions or form opinions linking specific individuals or institutions to the alleged crime based solely on information circulating in the mass media or on social media, and stressed that the entire law enforcement process must uphold the presumption of innocence.

The Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Attorney General’s Office have also denied that any of their members visited the Metro Jaya Police headquarters following the raids in the early hours of Thursday (9/7). The Head of the TNI Information Centre, Brigadier General Muhammad Nas, refuted social media narratives claiming that armed TNI personnel went to the Metro Jaya Police, calling the viral photos and videos untrue and warning of provocation. Similarly, the Attorney General’s Office’s Anang Supriatna dismissed the reports.

On Thursday night, joint investigators conducted another search, this time at a shop house on Jalan Asem II, Cipete, South Jakarta. Investigators arrived around 11:10 PM Western Indonesian Time in three buses, accompanied by an Automatic Fingerprint Identification System vehicle, and cordoned off five shop house units before entering one to collect evidence. The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, confirmed this was the 13th location searched and did not rule out further searches depending on witness testimony and case developments.
