Corruption at Bank Indonesia

Corruption at Bank Indonesia

From Kompas

The Jamsostek case (over the use of state social security
funds for legislative deliberations) is still unsolved and now
there is a report of corruption committed by a number of Bank
Indonesia directors to the tune of Rp 1.5 trillion. Compare this
amount with the Rp 5 billion collected up until Dec. 30 to ease
the famine in Irian Jaya.

Even more flabbergasting is that in our chaotic monetary
situation now, one of those Bank Indonesia directors has just
returned from a medical visit in Tokyo. Is there really no place
for medical treatment in Jakarta? Does the policy of belt-
tightening not apply to this official?

I wonder where our beloved country is heading if our officials
at the central bank have a corrupt mentality.

We often see government officials at inauguration ceremonies
being sworn in as director general or agency head. Have these
officials forgotten about their oath?

I propose that a culture of humility should be cultivated in
our country. One should feel humility toward oneself, friends,
children, grandchildren and especially toward God. If we fostered
a culture of humility, there would be no corruption and
collusion, and order would reign.
