Corruption and Misconduct Commission Formally Detains Former Religion Minister Yaqut
The Corruption and Misconduct Commission (KPK) has formally detained former Religion Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in connection with a corruption case involving hajj quota irregularities. He was previously designated as a suspect in January 2026.
The detention occurred following an interrogation session that concluded at 18:45 Western Indonesian Time. According to reports, Yaqut arrived at the KPK building at 13:05 on Thursday, 12 March 2026. He was seen wearing an orange detention vest and was escorted from the second floor of the KPK building with his hands in handcuffs.
“I have never received a single rupiah from the case being levelled against me,” Yaqut stated as he was being escorted by the KPK on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
“And I implemented all these policies solely for the safety of the pilgrims,” he added.
