Corrupters sent to Nusakambangan

The government transferred six convicted corrupters, including former deputy chairman of the now defunct Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) Pande Lubis, to maximum security prisons on Nusakambangan island off Central Java on Wednesday. Director General of Penitentiaries Mardjaman said the corrupters, who were serving their jail sentences in a number of prisons in Jakarta, Tangerang and Bandung, left Jakarta for Nusakambangan by bus at around 8 p.m. The six are the first people convicted of corruption to be moved to Nusakambangan, and will be incarcerated in the Batu, Kembang and Permisan prisons. -- JP
