Corrupt Convict Caught Lounging in Café Transferred to Isolation Cell
Supriadi, a convict in an illegal mining corruption case, has now been placed in an isolation cell following a viral video that recorded his activities while lounging at one of the coffee shops together with officers from Kendari Detention Centre.
“The convict has been given a sanction of detention in an isolation cell and transferred from Kendari Detention Centre to Kendari Prison,” said the Head of the Sulawesi Tenggara Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, Sulardi, on Wednesday (15/4).
Meanwhile, based on the examination results, Sulardi said, his side found violations committed by the officers escorting the convict Supriadi after attending a PK (cassation review) hearing at the Kendari District Court, on Tuesday (14/4).
The officer is now undergoing further examination. He has also been recalled to the Sulawesi Tenggara Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections to undergo disciplinary sanctions.
“We immediately examined the one who escorted the inmate and prepared a BAP (examination report),” Sulardi said.
“The officer escorted the convict to stop for coffee with his former subordinate who works at the Harbourmaster’s Office. The officer should have refused the invitation and returned to the detention centre,” he explained.
Supriadi is a former Head of the Kolaka Harbourmaster’s Office who was sentenced to 5 years in prison in a corruption case that harmed the state by Rp233 billion by issuing sailing permits (SIB) for 12 nickel mining barges from illegal mines.
