Coretax Service Providers Proliferate, Promising Nil SPT Status for Rp300,000

The activity of filling out and reporting the Annual Tax Notification (SPT) is mandatory for taxpayers at the beginning of the year as a form of accountability for income and taxes paid during the previous tax year. This obligation is regulated by the Directorate General of Taxes, and starting this year, all reporting is conducted through the Coretax system. This transition has led many taxpayers to use paid services for filling out their annual SPT. Based on observations by CNBC Indonesia, social media platforms such as Threads and X are rife with offers for these services, ranging from activation and authorisation code assistance from the Directorate General of Taxes to filing personal or employee annual SPTs. Notably, these service providers even offer to file annual SPTs with a nil status, without over or underpayment. Not only on social media, official websites providing SPT filing services have also been found. On these sites, providers offer prices starting from Rp300,000 per filing. The services are conducted online after customers order via the WhatsApp numbers listed on the sites. Previously, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the surge in ‘Coretax jokis’ is caused by business opportunities arising from the poor design of the current system. “In economics, if there’s an opportunity, someone will enter it. But going forward, we’ll fix it so that Coretax doesn’t require jokis anymore,” he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office on Monday (6/4/2026). Purbaya confirmed that the current Coretax system design is difficult for ordinary people to use. He even suggested there is an element of intentionality, creating business from that complexity. “The design is apparently flawed. It’s quite difficult for ordinary people to use. So there are jokis or software interfaces that connect Coretax to people. Now it’s too fast, too short a time to fix it,” he said. “Because I only found out a month ago, less than a month. That there’s room for people to enter in the middle of Coretax. So it’s like Coretax was created with weaknesses to allow business in the middle. I’ll sort it out later,” he added. On the other hand, Member of Commission XI Puteri Komarudin, during a working meeting with the Ministry of Finance on Monday (6/4/2026), said that many parties are exploiting public confusion in accessing Coretax to offer paid SPT filing services. “And if we look recently, there are those exploiting public confusion to the point of offering joki services for Coretax reporting,” said Puteri. Therefore, according to her, the Directorate General of Taxes under the Ministry of Finance needs to conduct more detailed and massive education on the features in the Coretax system. This way, the public can file their annual SPT independently and not give opportunities to unscrupulous individuals to exploit citizens’ confusion. “We want more detailed and massive education regarding Coretax features, how to report, what if overpaid or underpaid, what if they object, and so on, which causes confusion and is exploited by irresponsible parties,” she said.
