Mataram — Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that copper dominated export performance for Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) in January 2026, contributing more than two-thirds of total export value.

BPS NTB Head Wahyudin stated that smelter industry operations, which began activity, have significantly contributed to copper sales abroad.

“NTB’s year-on-year export value in January 2026 increased by 1,868.45 per cent compared with January 2025,” he said in Mataram on Monday.

Wahyudin reported that the export value throughout January 2026 reached 76.64 million US dollars. This figure was considerably higher than January 2025’s performance, which totalled just 3.89 million US dollars.

“The increase was driven by a rise in exports of non-mining commodities (indirect), particularly copper, which is a smelter industry product,” Wahyudin said.

Beyond copper, NTB’s exports were also supported by mineral goods valued at 18.85 million US dollars (24.60 per cent); fish and shrimp at 5.97 million US dollars (7.79 per cent); processed meat and fish at 542.30 thousand US dollars (0.71 per cent); and salt, sulphur, and lime commodities at 154.09 thousand US dollars (0.20 per cent).

The primary export destination for NTB was Thailand, accounting for 59.59 per cent of the market share, followed by China at 31.72 per cent and the United States at 8.45 per cent. Meanwhile, exports to Japan and India each represented less than one per cent, with remaining exports going to other countries.
