Cop missing after tidal waves

PALU, Central Sulawesi: A police officer, missing since
Monday's tidal wave is feared to have been dragged into the
water, according to Antara.

The news agency said that Chief Corporal Anhar Lahusen was
patrolling the Taipa beach in the Tonggolobibi village in
Donggala regency when the coast was suddenly swept by a tidal
wave. His motorbike was found near a ravaged warehouse.

A woman in Soni village in Buol Tolitoli regency who was
reported missing since the tidal wave, was found alive and well,
Antara said quoting a Soni port official.

The woman, identified as 50-year old Wati, had moved to a
relative's house after the tragedy, the official said.

In all, eight people were killed by the tidal wave that hit a
number of villages on the western coast of Central Sulawesi. The
tidal wave followed an earthquake measuring seven on the Richter
scale. The epicenter was located in the Makassar Strait. (emb)
