Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs: The State Is Working Hard to Secure the Release of Indonesian Citizens Detained by Israel

The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) said the country is actively pursuing nine Indonesian citizens detained by Israel. Head of Data and Information at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Brig. Gen. TNI Honi Havana, stated that Djamari Chaniago has given serious attention to the detention of Indonesians who were on the humanitarian mission Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0, and has assured that the state is present and will continue to work hard to secure the safety and release of all such Indonesians. Honi said Djamari also supported the steps of Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono together with several partner states condemning the obstruction of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 fleet and the detention of its personnel by the Israeli military. “The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs is pushing for strengthened cross-agency coordination, including establishing communications through friendly nations and international organisations,” Honi stressed. The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs has urged the public to remain calm and follow official government information. Earlier reports said nine Indonesians — four journalists and five activists — were detained by the Israeli army while carrying out the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 humanitarian mission. According to information from Global Peace Convoy Indonesia, on Wednesday (20 May 2026) the nine Indonesians sent an emergency SOS in the form of a video statement that they had been detained. They were captured at different times: Andi, Rahendro, Andre, Thoudy and Abeng were captured on Monday (18 May 2026). Herman and Ronggo had reportedly claimed to have escaped Israeli interception when the other five Indonesians were captured; a few hours later, he too was captured on Tuesday (19 May 2026) local time. Four hours later, Asad and Hendro also posted emergency messages stating that they had been captured by the Israeli army.
