Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment ensures SMK Go Global programme runs well
The Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment has confirmed that the SMK Go Global programme is running well as part of the national strategy to reduce unemployment and strengthen public welfare.
Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar stated that the placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) abroad must be carried out procedurally, safely, and with protection, and must form part of the national strategy to reduce unemployment and strengthen public welfare, said Deputy for Coordination of Village, Disadvantaged Regions, and Special Regions Community Empowerment Abdul Haris during an inspection of training for Prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (CPMI) at the Surabaya Industrial Training Centre on Thursday.
Abdul Haris, who also serves as Deputy Chair III of the SMK Go Global Acceleration Task Force, said in Surabaya that the first phase of the SMK Go Global programme attracted 14,523 applicants, and after administrative selection, written tests, and interviews, 3,340 participants were declared successful.
“Furthermore, using a market-demand-driven approach, upskilling training was provided for prospective migrant workers who already possess basic competencies, spread across 167 classes in 20 work areas of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Centre (BP3MI),” he said.
“The CPMI training at the Surabaya Industrial Training Centre focuses on production operator roles to fulfil job orders from Taiwan and Malaysia, with 100 participants taking part,” he added.
He expressed hope that this opportunity would be used as effectively as possible to gain work experience abroad.
In the next phase, he continued, Indonesian migrant workers need to improve their skills to meet overseas labour market demands with higher salary standards.
“It is hoped that through this programme, the welfare of the community, especially the families of migrant workers, can improve,” he said.
BP3MI East Java reported plans to cooperate with the State University of Malang, Muhammadiyah University of Malang, the Centre for Quality Assurance Development of Vocational Education in Automotive and Electronics in Malang, the Agricultural Development Polytechnic of Malang, the Health Polytechnic of Surabaya, the State Polytechnic of Jember, and the State Polytechnic of Madura as implementing partners for SMK Go Global in the next phase.
