Coordinating Ministry: Danantara to be Involved in Railway Networks Outside Java

The Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Kemenko IPK) has revealed that Danantara will be involved in the development of the national railway network outside Java, covering Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. “Danantara will be involved,” said Djoko Hartoyo, Assistant Deputy for Inter-Regional Connectivity Development at Kemenko IPK, in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, the Government has already announced the development of railway networks outside Java. He expressed hope that the groundbreaking could be carried out soon. The budget is directed towards new construction as well as the reactivation of approximately 14,000 kilometres of rail lines outside Java, spanning Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. The programme is part of a long-term plan towards the Indonesia 2045 vision, which requires careful planning and sustainable financing support from various sources. He estimated the annual budget requirement to be between Rp60 and Rp65 trillion if the investment is spread over a period of about 20 years.
