Coordinating Ministry Backs Thorough Investigation into Police Killings in Katingan

The Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam) supports a thorough investigation into the attack that killed three Indonesian National Police (Polri) personnel during a drug eradication operation in Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan. Kemenko Polkam also encourages law enforcement to dismantle the narcotics network involved and strengthen synergy between ministries and agencies to restrict the space for drug networks that threaten public safety and the future of Indonesia’s generation. Head of the Public Relations and Data Information Bureau at Kemenko Polkam, Brigadier General TNI Honi Havana, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago has instructed the strengthening of inter-ministerial and institutional synergy to narrow the operational space of drug networks endangering public safety and the nation’s future. “On the direction of the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, we express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the entire Indonesian National Police,” Honi said. According to him, the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of the three officers in combating illicit drug trafficking serve as an example for all law enforcement officers in maintaining security and protecting the public. He emphasised that eradicating drug abuse and illicit trafficking is a shared commitment of all government elements, and the handling of this case must be comprehensive, targeting both the perpetrators of the attack and the drug network behind it. Therefore, Kemenko Polkam fully supports law enforcement’s steps to thoroughly investigate the perpetrators and dismantle the involved drug network in accordance with statutory provisions. On this occasion, Kemenko Polkam also expressed its condolences for the loss of three Polri personnel: the late Ipda Sumaryanto, the late Aiptu Yudhie Perdana Putra, and the late Briptu Nopandri Ramadhana, who died while carrying out drug eradication duties in Tumbang Kalemei Village, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan. Kemenko Polkam paid tribute to the three personnel and appreciated the National Police Chief’s decision to award them exceptional posthumous promotions as a form of state recognition for their service, dedication, and sacrifice in the line of duty.
