Coordinating Minister Zulhas views change in National Nutrition Agency leadership as momentum to strengthen Free Nutritious Meal Programme
The Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), stated that the change in leadership at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) serves as a momentum to strengthen the governance and implementation of the Free Nutritly Meal (MBG) Programme.
Zulhas, who also serves as the Chairman of the MBG Implementation Coordination Team, welcomed the appointment of the new Head and Deputy Head of the BGN, noting their capacity and experience in bureaucracy and cross-sector coordination.
“I know all three well—the new Head and Deputy Head of the Agency. They are the right people,” Zulhas said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday. He assessed that the new BGN leadership possesses the necessary bureaucratic capacity and experience to bolster the execution of the MBG programme. “I frequently hold meetings with them. They are capable of working across ministries and agencies and understand the implementation challenges on the ground,” he added.
According to the Minister, strengthening the governance of the MBG is essential, given that the programme involves large-scale coordination across various ministries and agencies. The Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs leads the synchronisation, evaluation, and cross-sectoral control of the MBG Programme, which involves 17 ministries and agencies through governance implementation in accordance with Presidential Regulation Number 115 of 2025. As of 2 June 2026, the MBG Programme has been operating through 29,670 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), reaching 63,133,649 beneficiaries.
In the new structure, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, the newly appointed Head of the BGN, is recognised for her internal experience, having been involved in overseeing the MBG programme since its development stage. Meanwhile, Agustina Arumsari, serving as the Deputy Head of the BGN, is noted for bringing a perspective on oversight and risk management from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) to strengthen programme accountability. Additionally, Mayjen TNI Trenggono is regarded as possessing leadership experience from various strategic positions within the Indonesian Army, as well as food sector experience as the Deputy President Director of Agrinas Pangan Nusantara.
Zulhas noted that the change in BGN leadership reflects President Prabowo Subianto’s attention to various public inputs regarding the implementation of the MBG programme. “This is proof that the President listens to various criticisms and public feedback. The President is a figure who listens with great care,” he stated. The government hopes that the new leadership will strengthen the effectiveness of the MBG implementation while simultaneously improving the quality of nutritional services for the public.
