Coordinating Minister Zulhas guarantees nutrition service units will fully absorb smallholder poultry production
Malang, East Java — Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan has guaranteed that the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) will fully absorb all chicken egg production from smallholder farmers.
Speaking during a dialogue session with smallholder poultry farmers in Kambingan Village, Tumpang District, Malang Regency, East Java, on Tuesday, Zulkifli Hasan — commonly known as Zulhas — said every chicken egg procured by the SPPG would be used to support the raw material needs of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.
“Eggs alone require 82.9 million per day — there is no need to worry, chicken eggs will certainly be absorbed by the SPPG,” Zulhas said.
The requirement of 82.9 million chicken eggs corresponds to the target of 82.9 million MBG programme beneficiaries in 2026.
Zulhas added that the SPPG would likewise absorb the entire chicken meat output from smallholder farmers to meet MBG raw supply needs.
“Chicken meat requires 82.9 million portions per day,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the SPPG would deliver a positive impact on the livelihoods of smallholder poultry farmers.
“Farmers must profit, because this poultry business is fundamentally a people’s enterprise, not a conglomerate’s. The future is bright and radiant,” he said.
On the same occasion, Zulhas conveyed that the government now has a strategy to increase chicken meat and egg production to meet the protein requirements of tens of millions of beneficiaries, namely by developing integrated poultry downstream processing.
In the first phase, groundbreaking ceremonies have been held at six locations: Malang Regency, South Lampung Regency, Bone Regency, Paser Regency, Gorontalo Regency, and Sumbawa Regency.
The ecosystem being established encompasses strengthening poultry breeding, from grand parent stock through parent stock and final stock to feed production.
“Currently, one egg is provided per week — chicken once or twice a week is not permissible because the price could become uncontrollable. That is why there is a mix, such as with fish,” he said.
