Coordinating Minister Yusril Warns Indonesian Citizens Against Accepting Jobs from Conflict-Ridden Nations

The Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Disregard, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, has reminded the public to be careful when accepting job offers from abroad, particularly if those vacancies originate from countries experiencing armed conflict.

This comes in response to a release from the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (FISU), which reported that eight Indonesian citizens (WNI) have become soldiers for Russia. “Do not be easily enticed by job offers with high incomes without clearly knowing who the employer is, what the job entails, and where they will be stationed,” Yusril stated in a press release in Jakarta on Wednesday (2/9/2026).

According to Yusril, heightened vigilance is necessary if the offered work turns out to be related to military activities or armed conflicts. This warning follows information regarding the eight Indonesian citizens who joined the Russian military.

Yusril noted that the government needs to investigate the recruitment patterns of these eight individuals. He added that if there is indeed a network offering jobs to Indonesians for specific purposes but subsequently directing them into foreign military service, it requires serious attention.

“We need to know who is recruiting, how they are being recruited, what is being promised, and whether they knew from the beginning that they would be placed in military service,” Yusril said.
