Coordinating Minister Reveals Forest Fires Have Scorched Over 107,000 Hectares

The government is responding swiftly to the hot weather conditions and the El Niño phenomenon, which is forecast to peak from September to October 2026. The measures are also aimed at accelerating the handling of forest fires in several regions, including Mount Bromo and Mount Gede Pangrango. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) General (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago stated during a press conference at his office in Central Jakarta on Monday (10/8/2026) that, as of today, forest fires have affected more than 107,000 hectares across Indonesia. He noted that the government is deploying significant personnel and equipment to tackle the fires, including through aerial firefighting. As part of the air operations conducted by the Air Task Force, 43 helicopters have been deployed to date, supplemented by 10 to 15 fixed-wing aircraft as required.
