Cases of violence against children in daycare environments have recently drawn public attention. Daycare centres, which should serve as safe spaces for children, have instead become sites of such abuse.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, stated that his office had held a ministerial-level meeting regarding the quality of services and governance of daycare centres. According to him, the cases of violence in daycare settings must not be repeated.

“As repeatedly instructed by the President, the state must quickly address societal issues and enhance the quality of services to the public, including in this daycare case,” Pratikno said at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture in Central Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026).

He explained that the ministerial meeting was not only a response to the recent violence cases in daycare environments. Beyond that, Pratikno said, the meeting was also held to improve the governance of quality assurance for daycare services.

Pratikno stated that his side had explored many aspects of daycare service governance that need improvement. These improvements will cover standardisation, licensing, programme integration, integrated information systems, and others, including field supervision, incentives, and disincentives.

“So many things have already been elaborated; we need to follow up immediately,” Pratikno said. The meeting was attended by several ministers, including Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, and representatives from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).
