Coordinating Minister Pratikno Seeks Sultan HB X's Support for Child Safety Programme

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Pratikno met with the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, at the Kepatihan Complex in Jogja. Pratikno stated that the meeting was to request the Sultan’s assistance.

Pratikno explained that his ministry is preparing to implement several national programmes and came to Jogja to discuss them with the Sultan. “We at the Coordinating Ministry for PMK are asking for assistance from Ngarsa Dalem because we have several national programmes. We will soon be carrying out some national programmes,” Pratikno said after the meeting on Friday (3/7).

“Soon, with the new student admissions, we will have a national movement called RANA, a safe and comfortable space for children. Children must be guaranteed safety and comfort, whether in the family room, in educational units, in public spaces, or in digital spaces,” he elaborated.

Pratikno chose Jogja, known as a city of education, as a place to learn and explore initiatives to support this programme. “Therefore, we are asking for support from Ngarsa Dalem for DIY, because DIY is a city of education with many initiatives,” Pratikno said. “One of them is that the RANA movement will also be in Jogja. But besides that, we are also learning from Jogja about various initiatives. For example, we also discussed education for people with disabilities.”

Pratikno said the programme aims to provide equal access to all children, including those with disabilities, whose numbers he noted are significant. The programme is also expected to promote equal rights. “For instance, we have a programme for sign language education. This sign language is not only aimed at deaf children but also at hearing children, because communication must occur between deaf and hearing children,” he stated.

During his meeting with the Sultan, Pratikno added, the Sultan also proposed strengthening training programmes for people with disabilities to help them access employment. “Once again, no one left behind. People with disabilities also have the same access to education and job opportunities. We are grateful because we can gain much inspiration from the good practices in DIY,” he said.

This inter-ministerial integrity programme will be launched in stages by each ministry. It will begin with the Ministry of Religious Affairs on 12 July 2026, followed by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology a day later. Pratikno said the core of the programme is education for children, parents, and teachers, as well as infrastructure to ensure children’s safety and comfort in learning environments to prevent violence. “We will make the most of the momentum of the new semester and new academic year,” Pratikno concluded.
