Coordinating Minister Praises BNN's Drug Eradication Efforts as 'Saving Humanity and the Nation'
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago has expressed his appreciation for the performance of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in combating the illicit drug trade in Indonesia. He stated that the task of eradicating narcotics is a duty for both this world and the hereafter, aimed at saving humanity and the nation.
Speaking at the peak of the 2026 International Anti-Drug Day (HANI) commemoration at the BNN Rehabilitation Centre in Lido, Bogor, on Thursday (23/7/2026), Djamari said he had reviewed the results, plans, and programme stages prepared by the BNN. ‘I said to the BNN members, this task is a duty for this world and the hereafter. To save humanity, to save our nation going forward,’ he explained.
Djamari emphasised that the fight against drugs cannot be carried out by the BNN alone and requires collaboration from all parties, including the government and the public. He noted that these efforts are also part of the government’s programme to develop the nation’s human resources for the future. He also expressed hope that the press would play a role in supporting the government’s nation-building efforts by disseminating information to the public.
During the event, Djamari and BNN Chief Commissioner General Pol Suyudi Ario Seto conducted a symbolic destruction of evidence from several drug crime cases. The destroyed evidence weighed a total of approximately 3.37 tonnes, comprising various types of narcotics and related materials such as Thai cannabis flowers, methamphetamine, hashish, precursor liquids, chemical liquids, and chemical solids. A portion of the evidence had been set aside for laboratory testing and court proceedings prior to the destruction.
