“That is the essence of empowerment: growing together to become independent individuals, pioneering and developing one’s own potential and that of their surroundings to grow into productive economic actors.”

Jakarta (ANTARA) — Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar has assessed that the empowerment model run by PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) deserves to be expanded to various regions across Indonesia, as it has succeeded in building the economic self-reliance of communities.

“PNM is a very good model, an extraordinary model for an empowerment pattern that can be duplicated and replicated in various places, in various institutions that follow this model,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

He made the remarks during a visit to PNM’s branch office in Denpasar, Bali.

According to him, PNM’s 27 years of experience represents an important asset for the government in strengthening the community empowerment agenda as a national development strategy.

He said the vision of the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment aligns with the approach pursued by PNM, namely building empowerment that not only improves community welfare but also creates a healthy and sustainable business ecosystem.

“That is the essence of empowerment: growing together to become independent individuals, pioneering and developing one’s own potential and that of their surroundings to grow into productive economic actors,” said Muhaimin Iskandar.

He said the government wants to change the development paradigm from charitable assistance to empowerment that yields long-term impact.

According to him, every rupiah of the State Budget (APBN) must deliver benefits capable of raising people’s productivity.

He considered this approach increasingly important amid challenging global economic dynamics.

Therefore, Indonesia must strengthen its economic self-reliance through the development of people’s enterprises.

“On the other hand, in the reality we face, we can no longer depend on anyone, including markets — the global market, the regional market, geo-economic markets — nothing can be relied upon any longer unless we build self-reliance,” said Muhaimin Iskandar.
