Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Visits Workplace Accident Victim, Ensures Maximum BPJS Employment Protection

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) Muhaimin Iskandar has affirmed that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and BPJS Kesehatan services must be widely accessible to all workers and the public. He made the statement after visiting a worker undergoing advanced treatment at Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar, Bali, following a workplace accident in 2024. “There was a worker who had an accident and required an amputation, among other things. To date, since 2024, the cost has reached IDR 1.7 billion. This is covered by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan,” said Menko Muhaimin on Thursday, 9 July 2026. He expressed hope that similar protection and services could be felt by all workers and communities across Indonesia. According to him, the implementation of social security is a tangible manifestation of the government and state’s presence in providing protection when the public faces risks. “This is what we hope will apply everywhere, throughout the country, so that our BPJS, both Employment and Health, are institutions that properly serve social security, where the government and state are present,” he explained. To that end, Muhaimin encouraged workers who are not yet covered to become BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants. He also reminded workers and companies to be disciplined in ensuring their membership remains active so that protection can be provided when risks occur. “To those who are not yet BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants, this is a healthy mutual cooperation organ, where everyone supports one another. The government supports, all parties support, so I urge fellow workers and companies to please be disciplined in keeping their membership active,” the Coordinating Minister stressed. Meanwhile, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Director of Services Trisna Sonjaya stated that the Coordinating Minister’s visit served as a form of support for the participant undergoing recovery while also affirming the state’s presence in providing protection for workers facing risks. He added that the workplace accident experienced by the worker serves as a reminder of the importance of employment social security protection, given that occupational risks can occur at any time and to anyone. “The presence of the Coordinating Minister is certainly very meaningful and represents the state’s presence in ensuring that every worker who experiences a risk receives the best protection and service. This incident also serves as a reminder to all of us about the importance of employment social security protection, because risks can happen at any time and to anyone,” Trisna said.
