Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Sends Off 200 Indonesian Migrant Workers to Japan under SMK Go Global Implementation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar officially sent off 200 prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) under the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) scheme in the manufacturing sector to Japan, which is an implementation of the SMK Go Global programme.
“Today’s send-off is concrete proof that SMK Go Global is key to opening access and expanding the deployment of Indonesian workers abroad. We want our human resources to be able to compete and seize opportunities in the international job market,” said Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar at Arrival International Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Friday.
This effort is part of the national strategy to expand access for Indonesian workers to the global market through the SMK Go Global programme.
He stated that the SMK Go Global Programme has become a special focus of President Prabowo Subianto, who directly instructed the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment following the cabinet inauguration on 5 November 2024.
“The SMK Go Global Programme running today is an initial step, a pilot phase supported by state-owned enterprise CSR funding. From here, the programme model is tested and refined as a foundation towards the implementation of a regular scheme that is currently being prepared,” said Muhaimin Iskandar.
“This send-off is part of the implementation of the SMK Go Global policy designed as a bridge to produce superior and globally competitive human resources,” he said.
Muhaimin Iskandar emphasised that migrant workers will continue to be a national priority in efforts to create long-term welfare.
PMI are expected not only to work abroad but also to become agents of economic transformation upon returning to the homeland.
“With knowledge, work culture, and global networks, PMI can contribute to building the domestic industry. The state will continue to be present to protect and facilitate PMI so they can work professionally and safely,” he said.
The event was also attended by President Director of PT Angkasa Pura Ristiyanto Eko Wibowo and Deputy Minister for PMI Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla.
