Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Ensures Chronic Disease Patients Remain Protected by JKN

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) A. Muhaimin Iskandar has emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring chronic disease patients remain protected by the National Health Insurance (JKN), continuing to receive protection and sustainable access to healthcare services. The commitment was conveyed by Minister Muhaimin during an inspection of dialysis services at Cengkareng Regional General Hospital, which continued to the West Jakarta BPJS Kesehatan office in Kebon Jeruk, Jakarta, on Wednesday. “Fundamentally, all of us, the government, we continue to want to ensure that the form of service, especially catastrophic-type services, particularly dialysis, runs smoothly without any delays in its implementation. Because a single delay will have fatal consequences for all parties,” said Minister Muhaimin. Through this mechanism, participants help one another, so that people requiring high-cost healthcare services can still obtain treatment without being burdened by medical costs. He explained that the government annually allocates a budget of Rp48.6 trillion to fund participants of the National Health Insurance Contribution Assistance Beneficiaries (PBI JKN), plus approximately Rp4 trillion from regional governments. Of the total funding, around Rp22.2 trillion is used to finance catastrophic disease services, such as kidney failure, heart disease, cancer, and various other chronic illnesses. Additionally, the government is preparing an additional budget support of Rp20 trillion to maintain the sustainability of the JKN Programme and improve service quality for all participants. “Most importantly, we will strive as much as possible to increase this membership with the earnest participation of the entire community,” said Muhaimin. Earlier, Minister Muhaimin also directly inspected dialysis services at Cengkareng Regional General Hospital to ensure optimal service for patients. He engaged in dialogue with healthcare workers and patients to obtain a direct picture of service implementation in the field while gathering various inputs for policy refinement. Through strengthened cross-ministerial and institutional coordination, the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment is committed to ensuring all social protection policies align with efforts to improve community welfare. The government will also continue to ensure that chronic disease patients, particularly those from poor and vulnerable groups, retain their right to quality, sustainable, and unhindered healthcare through the National Health Insurance Programme.
