Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Politics and Security (Kemenko Polkam) has commended the performance of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) for successfully thwarting various smuggling attempts, thereby saving state funds.

“I express my thanks to the Indonesian Navy for their extensive efforts,” said the Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago during a press conference following a briefing on TNI AL’s seizure results for 2025 at the Indonesian Fleet Command (Koarmada RI) Headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to Djamari, the actions of TNI AL demonstrate the government’s presence in ensuring that Indonesia’s natural resources are not illegally traded.

Nevertheless, Djamari acknowledged that TNI AL’s efforts are not yet sufficient. This good performance must be sustained because smuggling activities will persist if surveillance and guarding begin to slacken.

Moreover, he continued, Indonesia has a vast maritime territory, resulting in numerous vulnerable routes for smuggling operations.

Therefore, Djamari urged TNI AL and all related agencies to strengthen maritime surveillance and crack down on all forms of illegal smuggling.

“I hope TNI AL does not become complacent with what we have achieved and does not tire of carrying out such duties, as this is the nation’s expectation, the hope placed on our shoulders,” said Djamari.

TNI AL managed to save state losses amounting to Rp14,751,350,764,090 during 2025 by thwarting illegal smuggling of goods at sea.

TNI AL also successfully prevented the smuggling of illegal migrant workers at several maritime route points.

The Commander of the Indonesian Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada RI), Rear Admiral TNI Denih Hendrata, stated during the press conference at Koarmada RI in Jakarta that these achievements were accomplished through collaboration between TNI AL and various parties.

“This success is inseparable from the solid synergy and collaboration between the Indonesian Navy and Customs, Police, Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI), local governments, other related institutions, and the public,” said Denih.

Based on the data presented by Denih Hendrata, TNI AL’s highest seizure occurred in May 2025, with total state losses saved reaching Rp14,470,984,600,000.

The lowest achievement was in January, with total state losses saved amounting to Rp642,000,000.

These points have become one of the locations closely monitored by TNI AL and all maritime security apparatus. However, Denih assured that TNI AL will not relax surveillance in other areas.

Denih continued that, to date, strict surveillance in maritime areas to anticipate illegal smuggling is still ongoing.

This is evidenced by TNI AL’s success in thwarting several smuggling attempts from January to May.

“Overall, for the period from January to May 2025, the Indonesian Navy, specifically Koarmada RI, has successfully saved state losses of Rp112.9 billion,” said Denih.
