Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Urges Public Not to Believe Hoaxes on Social Media
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) General (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago has reminded the public not to easily believe various hoaxes on social media. This relates to news of planned large-scale demonstrations in Jakarta and security threats, marked by the installation of high fences at several shopping centres. “And on this good occasion, I also say that the condition of our society is not as portrayed or spread through social media. As we know, our people are continuing their activities and livelihoods in Jakarta, in other cities, and in the regions as usual,” Djamari said at the Menko Polkam office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026). Djamari held a meeting attended by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, and Head of BIN M Herindra. He stressed that the security situation in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta, is fully under control, as evidenced by public activities proceeding normally. “Nothing has occurred that was suspected, predicted, or even circulated that would cause concern among our people. It appears our people already have the ability to deal with such matters, but we will continue to ensure our people remain calm and safe, and this safe condition will provide a fully controlled conducive atmosphere,” Djamari said.
