JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) General (Ret) Djamari Chaniago has reminded the public not to readily believe the various hoax reports circulating on social media. The warning relates to news of plans for large demonstrations in Jakarta as well as security threats, marked by the installation of tall fences at several shopping centres.

“And on this good occasion I would also like to say that the condition of our society is not as described or spread through social media. As is known, our society continues with the activities of daily life in Jakarta, in other cities and in the regions as usual,” said Djamari at the Menko Polkam office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026).

Menko Djamari convened a meeting attended by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) M Herindra. He affirmed that the security situation in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta, is very much under control, as shown by the public carrying on their activities as usual.

“Nothing has occurred of the kind suspected, predicted, or even circulated that would cause concern among our people. It appears our society already has the capacity to face such things, but we will continue to keep our people calm and safe, and this secure condition will provide a fully controlled, conducive environment,” said Djamari.
