Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Urges Government Officials to Avoid Corruption
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Djamari Chaniago, has requested that all levels of the government refrain from using their positions to engage in corruption. He ensured that officials at the central level, or those who consider themselves close to President Prabowo Subianto, will face strict sanctions if found guilty of corruption.
“There is no such thing as being a close friend of the President or anyone else receiving special treatment if proven to have committed corruption. The President has chosen to prioritise the interests of the Indonesian people,” said Djamari while providing direction to the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) for Java-Bali in Yogyakarta on Thursday (4/6), as quoted from a press release by the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs in Jakarta on Friday.
According to Djamari, law enforcement and the eradication of corruption have been core commitments of Prabowo since assuming the Presidency. Consequently, he ensured that law enforcement agencies will act decisively in handling corruption cases, in accordance with the commitments of the Prabowian administration.
He also warned officials at both central and regional levels to prioritise the interests of the people over their own personal needs. By consistently prioritising the public interest, Djamari believes that corrupt practices can be addressed and that all citizens can achieve a decent standard of living through a clean government.
“Therefore, all state officials must work fully for the interests of the people,” Djamari stated.
Recently, law enforcement agencies have been actively handling corruption cases involving high-ranking Indonesian officials. This includes the Attorney General’s Office, which recently detained the former Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, due to corruption discovered within the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. Furthermore, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named the former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, as a suspect in a case involving extortion related to document processing and gratifications for foreign national residence permits.
