Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Rallies BNN to Continue Drug Eradication: 'This is a Task to Save the Nation'
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam), Djamari Chaniago, attended the International Anti-Drug Day commemoration held by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and encouraged BNN personnel to continue eradicating the illicit drug trade. The commemoration took place in Lido, Bogor, West Java, on Thursday (23/7/2026). He initially stated that public participation is also needed in preventing drugs. Djamari said the measure of success in preventing drugs is not large-scale arrests. He stated that the measure is when no more drugs enter the community. “Our participation, the community, must help guard this. As I said earlier to the Head of BNN and everyone, our measure of success is not large-scale arrests. The measure is if our prevention is successful, no more goods will enter, the people themselves will reject it,” he said. Djamari attended today representing President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, the participation of all elements is needed to prevent drugs from entering the community. “But all elements within us must care about issues related to anti-narcotics. Today I was shown all the results that have been achieved, the plans for the future, the programmes and stages have also been prepared by BNN and this is a very good thing. We just need to do it together,” he said. He reminded all BNN members that the task of eradicating drugs is a task for this world and the hereafter. This is because the fate of the nation partly rests on this task. “As I said earlier to BNN members, this task is a task for this world and the hereafter to save humanity, to save our nation in the future. If we bring it down to the national level, this effort is precisely what will facilitate the government’s programme in creating and shaping our future human resources,” he said. He stated that Indonesia remains a target market for international drug traffickers partly due to geographical factors. He mentioned that drugs can enter from various points in Indonesia. “The problem is like this, we know our country is an archipelagic nation. The entry points to Indonesia are various, where do they enter from? By sea, by air, from the west, from the north, from the south, they can still get in,” he said. “This is what causes it to happen. I remember once again, I invite all of you to help, let us prevent this together,” he added.
