Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago has stressed President Prabowo Subianto’s seriousness in eradicating corruption without exception. He emphasised that every state administrator must carry out their duties with full integrity, uphold the mandate of their office, and prioritise public interest above personal or group interests. The statement was made while giving directives during a gathering with regional leadership coordination forums for the Java-Bali region at the Pracimosono Kepatihan Building in Yogyakarta on Thursday.

In his speech, Djamari highlighted the importance of solidity and synergy among all elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum to maintain political and security stability, which he described as the main foundation for successful development and improved public welfare. He stated that President Prabowo places the people’s interests, integrity, and the rule of law as top priorities, demanding that public officials protect public trust and avoid all forms of abuse of authority.

‘There is no such thing as a close friend of the President or anyone receiving special treatment if proven to have committed corruption. The President chooses to care more about the interests of the Indonesian people. Therefore, all state officials must work entirely for the people’s interests and safeguard the trust given by society,’ he was quoted as saying on Friday.

Beyond real-world threats, Djamari also warned of significant challenges in the digital space. He judged that the spread of disinformation, slander, and hate speech had the potential to trigger division and must be addressed seriously and collectively. ‘We are currently on a new battlefield, which is the digital space. Much disinformation, slander, and hatred is being spread. This is very serious and we must face it together. The regions we want to control must be occupied, monitored, and patrolled. We must be present on that terrain, because if not, it will be dominated by parties spreading disinformation, slander, and hatred,’ he said.

Furthermore, Djamari stressed the importance of preventing social conflict through strong coordination within the forum. He reminded all officials, apparatuses, and regional leaders to always maintain their attitude, speech, and behaviour in carrying out their duties, stating they essentially come from the people and hold a mandate to serve them. ‘We all come from the people. Therefore, guard your attitude, speech, and behaviour so as not to hurt the people’s hearts. Avoid reprehensible actions and be a role model for society. Regional heads must be examples for their people,’ he asserted.

At the same event, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian explained that the gathering was held regionally to encourage healthy competition between areas in supporting national development. Tito noted that the Java-Bali region holds a strategic position as the centre of economic and governmental activity, as well as being the most populous region in Indonesia. He stated that active and compact forums would be able to detect and prevent potential conflicts more quickly, strengthen oversight of government administration, and prevent corrupt practices in the regions.

Meanwhile, Head of Statistics Indonesia Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti appreciated governors, regents, and mayors who have actively coordinated with the agency and supported the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. She explained that the Java-Bali region is inhabited by about 162.87 million people, equivalent to 57.22 per cent of Indonesia’s total population, presenting both an opportunity and a challenge that requires quality human resource development and adequate job creation.
